After taking what seemed like literally hours to mould each individual bait by thumb and fore fingers, I convinced myself it would all be worth the effort! I prepared hair rigs in advance of fishing and carefully dried the paste hook baits until they went hard and tough enough to stay on the rig. At the lake, as it turned out, within half an hour of casting out, I hooked the lake record fish at that time weighing around 35 pounds in weight. It was a valuable lesson in the attraction of alternative protein based baits, and the benefits of their use! This was on a fishery where extremely good quality milk protein and fish meal baits had dominated catches at that time! Passion Drought: Turning the Fizzle Back Into Sizzle In Your Relationship; Part 1

By Brian Rzepczynski Introduction Many gay men in both short and long-term relationships report concern when the romance and passion in their partnerships decline or dry up, leading them to question themselves and fear for the future of their relationships. An unfortunate consequence of this is that many men break up with their partners prematurely at this point, have affairs, or turn to some form of addiction to cope under the mistaken notion that something is defective or wrong in their relationships. This article is the first in a two-part series and will describe how this phenomenon is a normal occurrence in healthy relationship development and how you can assess your own relationship red flags that could reinforce a passionless relationship with your boyfriend or partner. What Is Passion Drought? Theres no more passion or excitement in our relationship. It used to be so hot, but now its distant and empty. I feel like were drifting apart. Im so bored in this relationship. We do the same things all the time and its gotten so mundane and stale. These are but a couple of examples of passion drought, that time in your relationship when the chemistry and intrigue between you and your partner diminishes and more effort is required to sustain the heat that initially drew you to each other. But as you will see, this is a normal and expected part of all intimate relationships; its not necessarily a warning sign that somethings wrong as it is more about the fact that youre experiencing a growth spurt in a relationship that is maturing. In their book The Male Couple: How Relationships Develop (1984), D.P. McWhirter and A.M. Mattison pioneered a model on gay couple development that conceptualized six stages that gay couples can progress through as their relationships mature and grow. The first two stages are pertinent in explaining the decline of passion that occurs, a phenomenon called limerence they cite. Stage 1 is called Blending, also known as the honeymoon phase. This is the period of time in which you first meet each other and begin a dating relationship. Romance and that high of exhilaration and euphoria are at their peak during this phase, which typically lasts about a year. You and your partner think about each other constantly, cant wait to see and spend time with each other, and have lots of energy for shared activities and sex. Then Stage 2 hits, called Nesting, and this typically occurs during the second and third years of couplehood. This is marked by a strengthened commitment to each other, but it is also characterized by the power struggle. Here, the intensity of passion and attraction becomes replaced with conflict and more awareness of your differences, as individual and relational issues surface. These issues are no longer distracted or disguised by the force of initial chemistry. However, what may seem like relationship dysfunction is really growth in the form of each partner developing a sense of self as an individual and as a partner in a couple. Upon resolution of this phase brings the rewards of deeper commitment, growth, and intimacy. It is a normal and necessary developmental stage of being in a relationship, though more attention and effort will be needed to cultivate and sustain that passion that seemed so natural in the beginning. Blocks to Passion While this is indeed a natural state of all relationships, there are some additional factors that could be at play for a lack of passion in a relationship. What follows are but a few possible symptoms underlying passionless relationships. These can be subtle and hidden, or overt in the sense that they can amplify the conflicts in the power struggle phase. changed or misplaced priorities; the relationship comes second to some other influence lack of time available to attend to the relationship; lack of quality time spent together buying into the stereotype that long-term gay relationships dont last internalized homophobia, low self-esteem, and low confidence unresolved childhood issues being displaced into the relationship infidelity and/or developing attractions or feelings for another person other than your partner hidden resentments, hurts, and misunderstandings not being expressed communication break-downs and poor conflict negotiation practices verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse of any kind difficulties with trust and closeness; intimacy fears including fears of rejection, abandonment, engulfment, and being vulnerable codependency; attending solely to your partners needs at the expense of your own; lack of a separate sense of self or identity lack of personal vision for your life and lacking goals; confusion about who you are, what you stand for, and what you want out of life weak interpersonal and assertiveness skills; feeling your needs arent valid routine and repetition of daily living with minimal change or newness being introduced into the relationship; brings about feelings of stagnation and boredom life stressors, adjustments, transitions, crises, or losses emotional problems, substance abuse or other addictions, or sexual dysfunction being in the wrong relationship; genuine incompatibility failure to completely grieve and let go of a prior relationship Add your own to this list and assess where you stand on these issues. The important first step in bringing more passion into your relationship is to set the foundation first, and by addressing the above issues, youll be well on your way to preparing for increased intimacy. Any of the above items can sabotage your efforts if not attended to. It might be helpful to ask yourself these questions as well as you evaluate where you and your relationship are: Whats missing in my relationship? In what ways am I unfulfilled? How am I contributing to my own unhappiness? Have I discussed my concerns with my partner? Do I like my partner? Have I taken the time and devoted energy to really knowing him? Am I projecting onto my partner what I want him to be as opposed to who he really is? (Remember, you cannot change your partner! You can only be responsible for your own behavior) What would my ideal relationship with my partner look like if I woke up tomorrow morning and it looked perfect? My Online Background Check Experiment

By John Buckle Ever wanted to know a little more about yourself than you already do? I did so I put my name in a search engine and started an online background check of my past. It didn’t take long before I was navigating through websites and I found out where and when I was born, where I had gone to school (did that seem like an age ago!) and surprisingly some of my previous employment history. I also found out that I had no criminal background worth mentioning (always good to know) and that my credit rating was ok. I found this quite satisfying and decided that online background searching was not only fun, but it could also be very rewarding! Now that I’d a little background checking under my belt it occurred to me that it might be fun if I did some online background checks on my friends. So, I chose a few good friends and wanted to discover the following in my online search… Their date and place of birth The name of their parents Whether or not they had any children Pretty basic stuff I know but I knew the answers already so I could at least verify the online background check results. It didn’t take me long to collate all the information I needed plus a few juicy bits that I hadn’t known beforehand. For example, one had played semi-professional sport after graduating and yet anothers credit rating wasn’t very good, I wont be lending them $50’s in a hurry! Using the information I’d collated from my online background checks I created family trees for four good friends and when we next met with each of them I presented them with my gift and told them a few things about them they had not told me previously, I didn’t include the credit history though. They were amazed and delighted and couldn’t believe how I’d managed to obtain this information for free online. So, what can we learn from my first attempts at online background checks? Who Else Wants To Lose Weight? Stop Dieting!

By Herb Daly Jr From personal experience I have myself like all of you at one time or another tried dieting. I have lost weight on some plans but in the long run was not able to sustain it. It seems as though every time I lost some weight I would gain it all back and then some. It was a never ending depressing cyle. The question you should ask yourself before attempting any diet is can I live with this for the long term? Another words can I incorporate this as part of my healthy lifestyle, day in and day out? And the reason most people can’t is very simple. There are a number of reasons and i will name a few. When you deprive yourself of some of the foods you like human nature takes over you “resent it” food is suppose to be a pleasurable experience one of the many joys in life. How does it make you feel when you can’t have something? Usually when people diet they lose energy. Your body is use to a certain amount of calories and now you cut down and you become lethargic and tired, and energy levels drop. Dieting lowers your metabolism. Your body will go into starvation mode making it harder and harder to achieve results. Dieting usually causes hunger signals to increase and we start to get cravings, and they are usually carb cravings and any excess sugar usually ends up around our waistline or hip area. Dieting creates a false sense of confidence because most of the time the more you diet the harder it becomes and now a sense of guilt creeps in everytime you eat a food on that forbidden list. Usually when you lose weight on a diet a lot of it is water, and muscle. At all costs you want to preserve muscle mass because in a resting state muscle burns more calories than fat. So again what have you really done here? Set yourself up for failure again. Have you ever seen a thin fat person???????? A person who looks like there at their proper weight but if you feel their body they are soft, soggy, and what I call fleshy. A high percentage of fat, even though they might be in a good weight range. On the other hand you see someone who weighs 250lbs. with 4-6% bodyfat and are mostly all muscle. Now they too as far weight goes may not fall into proper weight ranges, but as we all know muscle does weigh more than fat! This is why I don’t believe in BMI (body mass index}. I really don’t give it any relevence at all. That is in my humble opinion only. So what is the solution to the problem? The very first question you want to ask yourself is: Can I see myself sticking to this program or routine for life? If the answer is no forget it. If you can answer yes and live happily with your decision then you are onto something. Throw away the scale. Dump it. This is a microwave society if you don’t see results quickly people usually lose interest. A better barometer of results is your clothes that have all of a sudden become too tight and uncomfortable. You have to understand that a lot of times following a sensible exercise and nutrition program weight will shift and the scale may not reflect it. Loss of inches and toning will. What is my game plan? Well I hate to be redundant but the only thing that works long term is regular and consistent physical activity and a sensible eating plan. Now I could tell you what to eat but I really feel that most people know what they have to do. And as far as exercise all I can say is do what you enjoy whether it is running, weightlifting, rebounding, tennis, rollerblading, skateboarding, it doen’t matter. If you enjoy it you will be consistent. Dont do something just because it will burn more calories faster, you won’t keep it up. I will share with you my personal strategy that has worked for me and I can live with it very comfortably. And i think most people could do the same. 1.) USE SMALLER PLATES: Instead of using normal dinner plates. This allows me to eliminate nothing! I eat everything. But I obviously don’t eat as much of the food that is bad for me. SO I DON’T FEEL DEPRIVED. Pizza, ice cream, chips, etc. I think the word here is everything in MODERATION. 2.)Eat 5-6 times a day, instead of 3. I know it is hard just do it! This works well with the smaller plate concept. You will not be hungry if you eat every 2-3 hours. I bring cans of tuna with me on the road, apple, and string cheese. 3.) Doing this actually speeds up your metabolism. You will become a fat burning machine instead of a fat storing machine. 4.) Limit alcohol, all it really is a lot of sugar. If you need to have one the best are dry wines, scotch, and vodka. Avoid the mixers with sugars. Add water, soda water, or diet tonics. 5.) For snacks I like smoothies and protein drinks.By adding nutri-sweet/or vanilla extract It can curb carve cravings. Bananas are another excellent choice. 6.) Your exercise of choice. (MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU). Treat it like any other priority. I like to see a minimum of 3 workouts per week. Make the time, and be consistent.Enjoy it! There you have it. (REMEMBER!
